Traditional Rulers Are Indispensable Partners to Rivers Government, Says Gov. Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has described traditional rulers in Rivers State as indispensable partners in his administration’s mission to accelerate prosperity for all Rivers people.

 

The governor made this remark on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, in Port Harcourt while declaring open the 119th and 120th combined Quarterly General Meeting of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers’ Council. He commended the leadership of His Majesty, Eze Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo, Eze Oha Apara IV, Apara Kingdom, as Chairman of the Council, noting that his administration has restored unity and respect to the state’s traditional institution.

 

“I feel the profound unity in the Rivers State Traditional Rulers’ Council. His Majesty is running an open, transparent Council where every Royal Father, irrespective of status, has a sense of belonging. His Majesty has, by his leadership style, restored dignity and respect to the traditional institution in Rivers State. I am happy I made the right leadership choice,” Gov. Fubara stated.

The governor also acknowledged the unwavering support and prayers of traditional rulers, attributing much of his administration’s success to their cooperation. He emphasized their role as key development partners after local government councils, helping to translate government aspirations into grassroots realities.

Reassuring the monarchs of his administration’s commitment, Gov. Fubara said, “We will never compromise or betray the trust and confidence of the people. Traditional rulers are held in high esteem, and we will not do anything to disrespect, sideline, or emasculate them.”

He urged them to collaborate with local governments and security agencies to maintain peace and rid their communities of criminal activities. Additionally, he reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling promises made regarding their welfare, including delivering official cars and other pledges.

 

Council Chairman Applauds Gov. Fubara’s Leadership

 

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, His Majesty, Eze Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo, expressed gratitude to the governor for his support and unprecedented attention to the welfare of monarchs. He noted that traditional rulers in Rivers have never enjoyed such favorable treatment under any administration, citing increased allowances, timely meetings, and the revitalization of the traditional institution.

 

The chairman further commended Gov. Fubara for his numerous developmental strides, including project commissioning and welfare bonuses for retirees. He prayed for divine blessings upon the governor to sustain these people-oriented initiatives.
