Excitement is building within the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, as activities for the 2026 Press Week commence, with members and stakeholders commending the Council Chairman, Grace Ike, and her executive team for what has been described as a well-organised and impactful programme lineup.
The annual event, which celebrates journalism, professional excellence, unity, and welfare among media practitioners, is expected to feature a series of engaging activities aimed at promoting the wellbeing and development of journalists in the FCT and beyond.
Stakeholders have particularly praised the leadership style of the Council Chairman and her team, noting their commitment to strengthening the union through inclusive programmes, professional engagement, and social interaction.
According to the schedule released by the Council, the week-long activities will begin with a Medical Outreach on Saturday, May 16, at the NUJ FCT Council Secretariat in Utako.
This will be followed by a Health Walk on Monday, May 18, with participants expected to converge at the Julius Berger Roundabout for the fitness exercise.
The highlight of the week will be the Press Week Lecture and Awards Ceremony slated for Tuesday, May 19, at the Lagos/Osun Hall of Transcorp Hilton Abuja. The event is expected to attract prominent personalities, senior journalists, public officials, and stakeholders from various sectors.
Other activities include a Secondary School Quiz Competition scheduled for Thursday, May 21, at the NUJ FCT Council Secretariat, aimed at encouraging academic excellence and youth participation in media-related initiatives.
The week-long celebration will climax with a grand Jean Party on Friday, May 22, at the Council Secretariat in Utako, where members and guests are expected to unwind in a relaxed social atmosphere.
Observers say the carefully packaged programmes reflect the Council leadership’s dedication to promoting unity, professionalism, and the welfare of journalists.
As preparations intensify, journalists and invited guests have been encouraged to participate actively in all events to ensure a successful and memorable 2026 Press Week celebration.
Many members also described the upcoming event as another indication that the NUJ FCT Council under Grace Ike’s leadership remains focused on raising standards and fostering stronger camaraderie among journalists in the nation’s capital.
