Welcome to the official website of the National Ambassador Newspaper, a distinguished publication proudly brought to you by the Abia Newspapers and Publishing Corporation (ANPC) with a rich history deeply rooted in Abia State, Nigeria. Established in August 1992, National Ambassador Newspaper has been at the forefront of journalism in Abia State and beyond, serving as a trusted source of news and information for nearly three decades.

Our Founding and Early Years

Our journey began one year after the creation of Abia State on August 27, 1991, during the tenure of military President Ibrahim Babangida. It was on August 27, 1992, precisely one year later, that we launched our newspaper, marking the birth of an institution that would leave an indelible mark on Nigerian journalism.

Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Abia’s first civilian governor, the National Ambassador was conceived as a state-owned newspaper that would rival national publications. Dr. Onu not only provided generous funding but also laid the foundation for our expansion and growth.

Growth and Recognition

In our formative years, National Ambassador gained recognition for its unwavering commitment to journalistic excellence. We set ourselves apart with high-quality reporting, exceptional writing, and top-notch printing standards. Our dedication to excellence extended beyond Abia State, earning us readership and accolades throughout the eastern region and across Nigeria. At one point in our history, we were proud to be voted as the best newspaper in the country.

Challenges and Resilience

Our journey has not been without its challenges, especially during periods of military rule. We faced indifference from successive military rulers, leading to a decline in our fortunes to 2003 when the newspaper faced a temporary closure. While we were reopened in 2005, it was only in 2012, that we experienced a brief revival.

Current Outlook

In recent years, we faced further challenges, but the election of Governor Alex Otti has instilled new hope within the intellectual community. Governor Otti’s background as a leading intellectual positions us to prioritize the development of the Abia Newspapers and Publishing Corporation. Our aim is to once again become a vital platform for news, information, and intellectual discourse in the state.

The National Ambassador Newspaper’s journey has been marked by both highs and lows, but our legacy as an integral part of Abia State’s media landscape remains unshaken. As we continue to adapt to the evolving media landscape, we stand as a testament to the enduring power of journalism to inform, engage, and shape the narratives of our times.
