The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has said the state government’s investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, electricity and economic empowerment are creating new opportunities for women in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
Mrs. Otti stated this during the 2026 August Meeting of women in the local government, held under the theme, “Women of Abia, Empowered to Thrive.”
She said the completion of key road projects was improving access to farms, markets and communities, thereby boosting economic activities and making it easier for people to move their goods and services.
The governor’s wife also highlighted the government’s investments in education and healthcare. She noted that 12 primary healthcare centres in the area had benefited from the government’s revitalisation programme, while the Cottage Hospital in Umuehim had been renovated and commissioned.
According to her, more than 500 people from Isiala Ngwa South had benefited from the state’s N1 billion interest-free loan scheme for small and nano businesses. She added that women farmers had also received fertiliser support.
Mrs. Otti further disclosed that the Ahiaoma Women Economic Empowerment Programme would support 100 women in Isiala Ngwa South, with 10 beneficiaries selected from each ward.
She said her office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Safe Tent Care Initiative, would continue to implement programmes aimed at improving women’s economic independence and supporting vulnerable women.
“We are not merely asking you to work hard. We are working to ensure that your hard work has somewhere to go,” she said.
The wife of the Chairman of Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Mrs. Nene Nwogwugwu, commended Governor Alex Otti and Mrs. Priscilla Otti for their commitment to women, children and families.
She urged women to take advantage of government programmes, develop their skills, support one another and embrace productivity, stressing that empowered women would contribute significantly to stronger families and more prosperous communities.
Mrs. Nwogwugwu also pledged the continued support of the local government administration for initiatives that promote women’s economic empowerment, entrepreneurship and skills development.
