Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has congratulated Team Rivers for emerging champions of the grand finale of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Inter-Senior Secondary Schools Debate Championship.
The governor described the victory as a remarkable achievement and a reflection of the intellectual capacity, brilliance, confidence and preparedness of Rivers children to compete successfully at the national level.
Fubara commended the students for their eloquence, critical thinking and teamwork, while also applauding their teachers, coaches and the Rivers State Ministry of Education for their guidance and support, which contributed to the outstanding performance.
“This victory is a source of immense pride to all Rivers people. It shows that our investment in education and human capital development is yielding results. Our children have once again proven that they are among the best in the country,” the governor said.
He assured the students of the state government’s continued support for programmes and initiatives aimed at developing the intellectual capacity of young people.
“We are proud of you, and we will continue to support programmes that build the minds of our young people,” Fubara added.
The governor further pledged that his administration would continue to provide an enabling environment and the necessary support for academic and extracurricular activities in schools across the state to enable students excel in future competitions.
He urged other students in Rivers State to draw inspiration from the success of Team Rivers and remain committed to excellence in their academic and other pursuits.
The grand finale of the championship was held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt, where Team Rivers emerged overall winners.
