The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has endorsed the plan by the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) to host its 2026 Annual National Conference in the state.
Mrs. Otti gave the assurance on Thursday when she received a delegation of FOMWAN, led by the Chairman of the National Organising Committee, Hajiya Zeenat Odion Isimekhai, at her country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
The delegation visited to brief the First Lady on the association’s vision and mission and to formally seek her support for the conference scheduled to hold from August 19 to 23, 2026, at the Federal Government Girls College, Umuahia.
The conference, themed “Faith, Resilience and Responsibility: Muslim Women Responding to Challenges,” is expected to attract over 600 delegates from across Nigeria and beyond.
Mrs. Otti commended FOMWAN for its contributions to education, women empowerment, and community development since its establishment in 1985.
She noted that the organisation’s efforts in promoting girl-child education, healthcare, and humanitarian services align with the core values of the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
“The government of Abia State is committed to partnerships that promote peace, inclusion, and development. We welcome FOMWAN to God’s Own State and will work with you to ensure a safe, successful, and impactful conference,” she said.
Mrs. Otti assured the delegation of a hitch-free conference and also commended the Amirah of FOMWAN in Abia State, Hajiya Azeezat Jimoh, for her role in securing the hosting rights for the state.
Earlier, Hajiya Isimekhai said the visit was aimed at formally acquainting the First Lady with FOMWAN’s vision, mission, and key programmes, as well as seeking collaboration for the annual conference.
She described FOMWAN as a faith-based, non-governmental organisation committed to education and social development and also commended Governor Otti for what she described as his transformative leadership in Abia State.
