The Executive Chairman of Ukwa East Local Government Area, Hon. Chibunna Akara, has officially flagged off the construction of a modern lodge for members of the National Youth Service Corps serving in the area. The project is part of efforts by his administration to improve the welfare and living conditions of corps members posted to Ukwa East.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Akara thanked the corps members for their presence and restated his commitment to completing the project on time. He assured that the lodge will be completed within two months and handed over immediately after completion. He added that the building will be fully furnished to provide a comfortable, safe, and decent place of stay for corps members throughout their service year.

The Chairman explained that the project is aimed at encouraging more corps members to accept posting to Ukwa East by solving long-standing accommodation challenges. He also revealed that plans are underway to renovate the existing rundown Christian Corps Members’ Lodge in the area. According to him, the poor condition of accommodation facilities has discouraged many corps members in the past, but his administration is working to change that situation through improved infrastructure.

Hon. Akara encouraged corps members to stay committed and diligent in their various places of primary assignment, assuring them of continued support from the local government throughout their service year.

He also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to education and youth development, announcing that the second phase of the Ukwa East Education Support Bursary Scheme will begin soon. He described the programme as part of ongoing efforts to support students and promote learning in the area.
The Chairman further appreciated the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for his dedication to education and the welfare of corps members across the state, noting that the Governor’s leadership continues to inspire development projects in Ukwa East.

Responding on behalf of the corps members, the Corps Liaison Officer, Mr. Ibe, praised the Chairman for his consistent support for their welfare. He said the project reflects the vision of the state government and prayed for God’s continued guidance and strength for the Chairman in his service to Ukwa East Local Government Area.
