The Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, has paid a symbolic visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty Donatus Aguiyi, the Ofondu II of Ndume Autonomous Community, Ibeku, in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
Speaking during the visit, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe said he was delighted to visit Eze Aguiyi once again after twenty-six years. He recalled that his first visit to the palace was during the marriage ceremony of his first daughter.
Igwe Achebe, who was in Abia State for the celebration of his 85th birthday organised in his honour by Governor Alex Otti, described Eze Aguiyi as a caring and highly respected royal father. He noted that the marriage relationship established between both families twenty-six years ago has remained a blessing to the Achebe family.
Receiving the Obi of Onitsha at his Omenuko Aku Palace, Eze Donatus Aguiyi described the visit as symbolic and significant.
Eze Aguiyi, who was flanked by members of the Omenuko Aku Cabinet led by the Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Otuka Meregini; the President General of Ndume Otuka Development Union Federated, Sir John Ulonam Onyiro; and the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr Austin Okezie Meregini, recalled the peaceful and cordial relationship he has enjoyed with Igwe Achebe over the years, describing him as a humble and amiable monarch.
The traditional ruler also commended Governor Alex Otti for organising the 85th birthday celebration of Igwe Achebe in Umuahia, describing the event as worthy of celebration.
Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr Austin Okezie Meregini, described the visit as iconic and a rare privilege.
He recalled the commendable remarks Governor Alex Otti has consistently made about Igwe Achebe, particularly regarding his mentorship qualities and cordial relationship with the governor.
The Deputy Speaker prayed for continued sound health for both Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe and Eze Aguiyi, while also promising to host the 95th birthday celebration of Eze Donatus Aguiyi scheduled for October this year.
The visit featured the presentation of gift items to Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe and his palace chiefs, as well as a group photograph session.
