The National Directorate of Employment, NDE Abia joined the 36 states in the federation and FCT to flag off the 93,731 jobs in the state.
The State Co-ordinator, NDE Abia, Mrs Tessy Wachuku welcomed all the dignitaries and participants to the event and congratulated the participants for making it to the list which was drawn from the online registration.
The NDE Abia Boss appreciated the good work of the Director General of NDE, His Excellency Silas Ali Agara in revolutionising NDE in the area of digitalization.
The Director General NDE, Dr. Silas Ali Agara who was represented by the NDE Abia State Coordinator in his keynote address said that the president is poised to curb unemployment from the grassroots, reason the participants were selected 10 persons per ward.
The program which cuts across the four core programmes of vocational Skills Development, Small Scale Enterprise, Rural Employment Promotion and Special Public Works will train unemployed and unskilled persons in 30 skill sets including digital skills. At the end of the training, a good number will be resettled with starter packs.
The Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony was the Secretary to the Abia State Government, Prof Kenneth Kalu who was represented by Dr Jackson Sunday, the Executive Secretary, Abia State Emergency Management Agency.
Other dignitaries that graced the event and gave goodwill messages were the Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Prof Caleb Ajagba (PhD) represented by Dr George Chidozie, Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Govenor of the State on Special Duties.
The Head of South East Zone, Mr Ben Odo was represented by Mr Godswill Ogbonna.
Also present was the head of the federal Information centre, Umuahia, Mrs Ifeyinwa Gloria Abiakam who gave a talk on job creation as a tool for social change and total wellbeing.
Responding on behalf of the participants, Mr Ekwekwo Wisdom Izuchi thanked the federal Government and NDE for this laudable initiative and gave a firm promise that they will put in their utmost best during the training.
Mrs Stella Chukwuekezie, an Assistant Director and head,Rural Employment Promotion who gave the vote of thanks appreciated the dignitaries for gracing the occasion and encouraged the participants to take their training seriously.
A total of 1,840 persons will be trained in Abia state.
