No fewer than 500 residents of Aba South Local Government Area have benefited from a free eye care outreach organised by the Abia State Government in partnership with the Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau (AEHMB).

The medical outreach, which took place at the Aba South Local Government Secretariat, was led by the Administrator of the Bureau, Dr. Faith Emeka-Obasi, alongside a team of healthcare professionals committed to improving access to quality eye care services across the state.
Beneficiaries received free eye examinations, medications, and reading glasses during the exercise, which attracted a large turnout of residents seeking treatment and professional eye care services.
Speaking after receiving treatment, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Nkechinyere Okereke, commended the state government and the organisers for bringing the initiative closer to the people.

She described the programme as timely and well-coordinated, noting that many residents who could not ordinarily afford eye care services were able to access treatment free of charge.
According to her, she underwent a comprehensive eye screening and was provided with both medication and reading glasses at no cost.
“I am very pleased with this initiative. The exercise is well organised, and the medical team has been very professional. I came early and have already received treatment and glasses. I believe many others will also benefit before the programme ends,” she said.
The outreach forms part of the Abia State Government’s ongoing efforts to promote preventive healthcare and improve eye health outcomes among residents through the activities of the Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau.
Officials said the programme is aimed at making essential eye care services more accessible, particularly to vulnerable and underserved communities across the state.
