Women leaders across Abia State have pledged their support for Governor Alex Otti’s second-term bid, citing his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, infrastructure development, and women’s empowerment.
The pledge was made during a meeting with the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, where representatives of various women’s groups assured her of their solidarity and readiness to mobilize support across the state.
Among those who spoke at the meeting were the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adaeze Emetu; the Labour Party Women Leader in the state, Lady Elisabeth Udo Kalu; the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa; the leader of the Wives of Mayors, Mrs. Elizabeth Onyeabor; the leader of female councillors in the state, Mrs. Chinenye Obadaiah; and a representative of councillors’ wives, Mrs. Rose Mgbeokwu.
The women commended the Otti administration for creating opportunities for women in governance and for initiating programmes aimed at improving the welfare of women and families.
They noted that the visible impact of the administration’s policies on education, healthcare, and economic empowerment had strengthened their resolve to support the governor ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding, Mrs. Otti thanked the women for their support and assured them of Governor Otti’s continued commitment to inclusive governance.
She said the governor remained focused on policies that uplift women, expand opportunities for girls, and ensure active female participation in decision-making at all levels.
“The governor’s vision is to build a government where no one is left behind. Women’s empowerment and inclusion are central to that vision, and we will continue to deepen those efforts,” she said.
The meeting ended with a call on women across the 17 local government areas of the state to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), remain united, participate in the ongoing Labour Party electronic registration exercise, and mobilize support at the grassroots level to sustain the gains of the current administration.
