PCRC Welcomes New Abia Police Commissioner, Pledges Stronger Partnership
The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Abia State Command, has welcomed the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc(+), mnips, JP, pledging stronger collaboration with the Police to enhance security across the state.
The PCRC delegation, led by its Chairman, Chief Iheanyi Igboanulam, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner at the Command Headquarters, Umuahia, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The visit was aimed at formally welcoming the Commissioner to Abia State and strengthening the existing partnership between the Police Command and the PCRC.
Speaking during the visit, the PCRC reaffirmed its commitment to serving as a vital link between the Police and the public. The committee also expressed its readiness to support initiatives aimed at protecting lives and property and promoting peace and security across the state.
Receiving the delegation, CP Afolabi thanked the PCRC for the gesture and assured members of the Command’s commitment to maintaining a robust partnership and sustained engagement with the public.
The Commissioner briefed the delegation on operational strategies being implemented in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police. He disclosed that the Command was working to address communication gaps in key areas, including Aba, while also prioritising continuous training and retraining of personnel to improve professionalism, efficiency and service delivery.
CP Afolabi further highlighted efforts to strengthen the Command’s Cybercrime Department to enhance its capacity to effectively tackle cyber-related offences in the state.
The Commissioner urged the PCRC to remain committed to its responsibility of service to the nation, assuring the committee of the Command’s readiness to work closely with it and other stakeholders towards creating a safer and more secure environment for the people of Abia State.
