Fmr Abia Deputy Gov, Akomas Welcomes Lawmaker Erondu Jnr, 5,000 Others to APC in Abia

The National Chairman of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria, Dr. Chris Akomas, has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party committed to making life more affordable and meaningful for Nigerians.

Dr. Akomas made the remark at his country home in Nenu, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, while receiving defectors from other political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), into the APC.

Among those who defected were the member representing Obingwa West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr; former Obingwa LGA Chairman, Hon. George Ubani; Hon. Chikezirim Monday Orji; and over 5,000 supporters — a development stakeholders described as a significant boost for the APC in Abia State.

Akomas said the APC is not only the largest political party in the country but also a strategic and inclusive platform focused on strengthening Nigeria’s democracy. He urged party members to maintain unity of purpose in their collective quest to serve the people and deepen democratic governance.

He noted that Erondu Jnr was a foundation member of the APC in Abia State, having served as the party’s first Administrative Secretary in the state alongside Chief Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, its pioneer National Vice Chairman from Abia.

The former deputy governor expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for responding to what he described as a clarion call to return to the APC, adding that his defection would further strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akomas assured that party members would work together to advance the progress of Nigeria, Abia State, and Obingwa LGA, stressing the need to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots.

In his remarks, Erondu Jnr pledged to sustain his record of effective representation and called on the people of Obingwa, Abia State, the South-East and Nigeria at large to support the APC.

He also commended Akomas, a former Federal Commissioner representing Abia State at the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, for his leadership and efforts in fostering unity within the party to attract development to the area.
