FG Disburses ₦500,000 Grants, Equipment to Women at “Give to Gain” Summit

Federal Government has disbursed ₦500,000 grants and distributed empowerment tools to women’s groups across Nigeria as part of activities marking the grand finale of the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration at the “Give to Gain” Summit in Abuja.

The intervention, implemented through the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is aimed at strengthening the economic capacity of women, particularly at the grassroots.

Items distributed included sewing machines, grinding machines, freezers, and other income-generating equipment, alongside cash grants of ₦500,000 to each benefiting group.

The presentation was conducted by the representative of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu—the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hajiya Fatima Abbas Tajudeen—alongside the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.

Beneficiaries included the Catholic Women Organisation (Abuja Diocese), widows’ associations, associations of persons with disabilities, and the Royal Women Association from Nasarawa State, among others.

Speaking on behalf of the First Lady, Hajiya Fatima Abbas Tajudeen said the initiative reflects a deliberate shift from advocacy to practical empowerment.

“This support demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that women are not only encouraged but equipped with the tools needed to succeed,” she said.

She emphasized that the administration’s focus on families and social development remains central to national progress, noting that empowering women strengthens families and stabilizes communities.

In her remarks, the Minister of Women Affairs described the intervention as a strategic effort to expand opportunities for women nationwide.

“These are not just items—they are tools for economic independence and long-term growth,” she said.

Representatives of development partners, including UN Women, were present at the event and underscored the importance of collaboration in advancing women’s empowerment across the country.

Some beneficiaries described the support as timely, stating that it would enable them to start or expand small businesses and improve their livelihoods.

The summit brought together stakeholders from government, civil society, and faith-based organisations, all committed to translating policy initiatives into tangible outcomes for women across Nigeria.
