Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and their affiliates in the state for embracing dialogue in resolving industrial disputes, describing the approach as key to sustaining industrial harmony.
In his May Day message to workers, the governor said the prevailing peace across workplaces in the state reflects the maturity and responsibility of organised labour leadership. He urged union leaders to keep channels of dialogue open to ensure continued progress in industrial relations.
Fubara expressed appreciation to civil servants for their contributions to the development of the state and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising workers’ welfare and wellbeing.
He disclosed that the rehabilitation of the State Secretariat Complex is ongoing and, when completed, will enhance the work environment, efficiency and productivity in the civil service.
The governor noted that over the past 35 months, workers in the state have maintained peace and stability despite political challenges, assuring them that their dedication and sacrifices would not go unrewarded.
He added that his administration has sustained prompt payment of salaries and is making steady progress in clearing pension arrears, pledging that no retiree would be neglected.
“Today, Rivers State pauses to honour the people who keep it moving,” Fubara said, acknowledging the contributions of teachers, healthcare workers, civil servants, engineers, sanitation workers, farmers and artisans across the state.
He urged workers to remain diligent and committed to service, noting that their efforts continue to drive development and shape the state’s progress.
