The newly elected Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, Mr Peter Azubuike, has pledged to lead the party with selflessness, integrity, and discipline, assuring members of a more inclusive and transparent administration.
Azubuike made the commitment while speaking with journalists shortly after the party’s congress held in Umuahia, where he emerged through a consensus arrangement adopted by delegates.
He stated that his leadership would focus on three cardinal points and as well, mark the end of marginalization within the party, emphasizing that every member, from the grassroots to the state level, would be carried along.
According to him, the era of one person being shortchanged was over, stating that his administration would ensure that everyone, from the polling unit to the ward, local government, and state level, was fully involved.
Azubuike noted that while the party had made notable progress, his leadership would inject renewed energy and expand its reach across all parts of the state.
“Where we are is not bad, but in the coming weeks, we will bring a lot of vigour as we consolidate on what is already on ground. Every nook and cranny of Abia State will be canvassed into the Labour Party. People are waiting for us to identify with them”, he added.
He attributed part of the party’s growing acceptance to the performance of the state Governor, Dr Alex Otti, noting that it has created a favorable environment for further expansion.
The chairman also affirmed that the party at the state level remains united under its leadership, expressing confidence in building a stronger structure ahead of future elections.
Other members of the State Working Committee who emerged through the consensus process include Mr Chucks Akamadu as State Secretary, Mazi Ben Otti as Organizing Secretary, and Mr Emenike Iroegbu as Publicity Secretary.
Earlier in his acceptance speech, Azubuike vowed to unite party members and strengthen its structure across Abia State, while expressing optimism about leveraging the party’s growing popularity to secure victories in the 2027 elections.
