The Seventh-day Adventist Church, Old Umuahia, has honoured the Wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, with an Award of Excellence in Leadership in recognition of her outstanding leadership and commitment to supporting women, families, and community development.
The award was presented during the church’s Women’s Ministries Day celebration and fundraising programme organised to support the completion of its church building project.
Receiving the award on behalf of the First Lady, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Chinenye Nwaka, thanked the church for the recognition and reaffirmed Mrs. Otti’s commitment to promoting initiatives that strengthen faith, family values, and community development.
She described the church building project as more than a physical structure, noting that it would become a place where lives are transformed, families are strengthened, and future generations are nurtured in the Christian faith.
Mrs. Nwaka called on members, friends, and well-wishers to support the project generously, stressing that collective commitment can make even the most challenging goals achievable.
She said, “As women, we have always been builders of homes, values, and society. Today, we are also called to be builders of God’s Church by investing in a vision that will shape lives for generations to come.”
After making her personal donation, Mrs. Nwaka encouraged women to remain steadfast in prayer and to uphold the values of integrity, virtue, and excellence in their homes, workplaces, and communities. She also urged eligible members of the congregation to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of future elections.
Earlier, the Women’s Ministries Leader of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Old Umuahia, Mrs. Precious Nwokocha, said the event was organised to celebrate God’s faithfulness and honour women whose dedication and faithful service have contributed greatly to the growth of the church.
She congratulated the award recipients and encouraged them to remain committed to serving God and humanity with humility, love, and excellence.
Mrs. Nwokocha further disclosed that the church aims to raise ₦10 million to complete its worship auditorium, describing the project as a lasting legacy that will benefit future generations of worshippers.
In his remarks, the Senior Pastor of the church, Pastor Samuel Onwumere, appealed to members, friends, and well-wishers to support the project. Quoting 2 Corinthians 9:7, he reminded the congregation that “God loves a cheerful giver” and prayed for God’s blessings upon everyone contributing to the successful completion of the church building.
