Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, along with his Ebonyi State counterpart, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, were among top dignitaries who attended the funeral of the late former military administrator of Ebonyi and Delta States, Chief Walter Feghabo-Amain.
The funeral service, held at King Koko Square in Ogbolomabiri, Nembe, was well attended. The leaders, in separate remarks, praised the late retired Navy Captain for his service to the country, describing him as a disciplined officer, patriot, and statesman.
Represented by his deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe, Governor Diri said the deceased brought honour to Bayelsa through his leadership roles in Ebonyi and Delta States, leaving behind strong legacies. He added that after his military service, Feghabo-Amain continued to serve his community in different leadership positions.
Diri described him as a man of integrity whose positive impact will not be forgotten. He also thanked the governments of Ebonyi and Delta States for their support to the family.
Governor Nwifuru, represented by his deputy, Princess Patricia Obila, described Feghabo-Amain as a patriotic and visionary leader who contributed to the early development of Ebonyi State. He also announced a donation of N50 million to support the family.
Governor Oborevwori, represented by his Chief of Staff, Prince Johnson Erijo, said although the late officer served Delta State for a short period, he helped promote peace and smooth transition to civilian rule.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, represented by Rear Admiral S.D. Ibrahim, said the late Feghabo-Amain served the Nigerian Navy and the nation with honour.
Tributes were also given by Chief Nimi Barigha-Amange and Chief Joseph Ilagha on behalf of the Nembe Council of Chiefs and the family.
In his sermon, Rev. Marcus Oweifa of Christ Evangelical Mission reminded the congregation that death is inevitable and urged people to live lives of service to God and humanity.
Other dignitaries present included Abia State First Lady, Mrs. Priscilla Otti; former Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Sam Egwu; former Bayelsa Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Bayelsa Elders Council, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (retd); and others.
Meanwhile, Governor Diri also attended the funeral of former Senator John Brambaifa in Agbere, Sagbama LGA, where he urged the family to take comfort in his good legacy as a respected son of Bayelsa.
