Ex-Athlete Donates Volleyball Equipment to Abia Sports Council

Abia State Volleyball is set for greater heights this year following the donation of vital Volleyball equipment to the Abia State Sports Council by former Abia State athlete Ms. Joy Eziaku Ogba last December.

Ms Ogba, who was a member of the gold winning Abia State Volleyball team at the 2006 Gateway Games in Ogun State, was a former player of Abia Queens Volleyball Club, a former National Institute of Sports player and a former National team player. In 2019 she was inducted into the Louisiana Tech University Hall of Fame.

The American based athlete donated six Mikasa Volleyballs with net, souvenirs for upcoming volleyball players and new modern electronic whistles for referees, which are blown by just pressing a button.

The Director of Sports, Comrade Obioma George while presenting the equipment to the press, emphasized the need for individuals to support government in Sports development and thanked Dr. Alex Otti for his unprecedented effort in sports development, which has motivated well-meaning individuals like Ms. Joy Eziaku Ogba to support the Sports Council through various means.

In her contribution, Abia Volleyball coach who doubles as the secretary of Abia State Volleyball Association and a teammate of the donor, Udeaku Nwaogazi,  recalled that Abia players used to dominate the national team and assured that with the support of the Dr. Alex Otti led government,  individuals at home and in the diaspora as well as corporate bodies, Abia Volleyball is poised to regain its previous glory.
