The state Government has flagged off the National Food Intervention Programme organized by Aliko Dangote foundation and also expressed their readiness for effective partnership in health scheme with them in order to improve the well being of Bayelsans.
Governor Diri, who was represented by his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, acknowledged the Foundation for donating ten thousand bags of 10kg rice to the less privileged in the state and their efforts in funding critical healthcare projects in the country.
“My administration was desirous of establishing and sustaining effective partnership with Dangote Foundation and we have secured twenty-one thousand bags of rice and other grains to be distribute as food palliatives to Bayelsans so as to reduce hardship in the state”, he said.
He noted that, this administration has been supporting many individuals monthly with the sum of N200,000 each to enable them create sustainable livelihoods and promote self reliance through businesses across the eight local government areas of the state.
“I want to welcome you and thank the Aliko Dangote Foundation for this very noble humanitarian initiative. It is quite encouraging that someone had to do this whole heartedly. We believe that this gesture should not end in food alone. We are open and ready to embrace the Aliko Dangote Foundation in the area of healthcare delivery”, he stated.
In his welcome remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture and National Resources, Prof. Beke Toboukiye Sese, said the state government was delighted at the philanthropic gesture from the Aliko Dangote Foundation and assured the Foundation that the seven thousand bags of rice received so far would be judiciously distributed to the less privileged in the state.
The Head of Operations, Aliko Dangote foundation, Mr. Ejiro Victor Edero, said, the purpose of this programme is to alleviate hardship being faced by families across the state. Also noted that, the programme is a nationwide project in order to help the needy effectively.
