Democracy Day: Labour Party Calls for Inclusive Governance, National Renewal

Labour Party has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to the democratic process as the nation commemorates Democracy Day, despite the prevailing economic and security challenges confronting the country.

In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party congratulated Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora on the occasion and paid tribute to the late Chief MKO Abiola and other pro-democracy activists whose sacrifices paved the way for the restoration and sustenance of democratic governance in Nigeria.

The party acknowledged that Nigeria’s democratic journey has been marked by setbacks, unmet expectations and missed opportunities, but stressed that citizens should not lose faith in the country’s future.

According to the statement, democracy remains the most inclusive system of governance, providing citizens with the opportunity to participate in decision-making and influence the direction of national development.

The Labour Party called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, hunger and infrastructure deficits, noting that the true dividends of democracy must be reflected in improved living conditions for the people.
