Chief Emma Trump Eke, the Federal Commissioner representing Abia State at the National Population Commission, has dismissed rumors that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, is planning to run for the governorship of Abia State in 2027. He described the claims, which originated from an obscure blog, as baseless and politically motivated.
Chief Eke, in a recent interview, accused an unnamed “invisible politician” from Igbere of orchestrating the rumors to promote his younger brother’s candidacy for the Bende Federal Constituency seat. He clarified that Rt. Hon. Kalu is currently focused on strengthening the APC and working to deliver results for the party and the President, rather than pursuing personal political ambitions at this time.
“The political future of the Deputy Speaker will be determined by God and his political family. Whether he will run for Senate, Governorship, or return to the House of Representatives will be decided openly,” he said.
Chief Eke emphasized that the Benjamin Kalu group has built a formidable structure across the Southeast, not for personal ambitions, but to strengthen the party and deliver better electoral results for the President in future elections.
“As the leader of the opposition in Abia, he should not rest but work hard to redeem the state. APC is daily harvesting great men of character and resources,” he added.
Chief Emma Trump Eke reaffirmed that Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu remains committed to party-building and serving in his current role as Deputy Speaker.
He called for unity within the APC in Abia and dismissed divisive rumors as distractions from the party’s objective of strengthening its position in the state ahead of the next elections.
