Tinubu Commissions 15km Karu Roads, Hails Economic, Traffic Benefits

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the newly rehabilitated and expanded 15-kilometre road network linking the Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction and adjoining roads in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), describing the project as a key investment that will ease traffic congestion and stimulate economic activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The project, commissioned on Monday by Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of the President, is part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope infrastructure programme aimed at modernising Abuja and improving residents’ quality of life.

President Tinubu said the rehabilitation of the strategic Karu corridor would address years of persistent traffic congestion that had slowed business activities and caused hardship for commuters.

According to him, the upgraded road network will significantly reduce travel time, improve connectivity and create an enabling environment for businesses to flourish.

He added that the installation of solar-powered streetlights along the corridor would enhance road safety, improve nighttime visibility and strengthen security in the area.

The President commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for accelerating infrastructure development across the nation’s capital, noting that the extension of modern infrastructure to satellite communities reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive development.

Tinubu also praised the contractor, Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, for completing the project within schedule and maintaining high construction standards, saying indigenous firms have continued to demonstrate the capacity to deliver quality infrastructure.

He urged residents to safeguard the facility by preventing vandalism and ensuring that drainage channels remain free from refuse to preserve the lifespan of the roads.

Speaking earlier, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike described the road project as another fulfilled promise of the Tinubu administration, stating that all the road projects requested by residents of Karu have now been completed, improving mobility and opening up the community for greater economic opportunities.

He thanked President Tinubu for his unwavering support for infrastructure development in the FCT and urged Nigerians to assess governments based on tangible projects and service delivery rather than political considerations.

Wike also commended Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited and its Managing Director, Otunba Abdullahi Suleiman Bello, for delivering the project despite financial constraints and ahead of the administration’s third anniversary.

Providing details of the project, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said the contract was awarded on August 22, 2025, and completed within nine months.

He explained that the project covered about 15 kilometres of roads and included drainage systems, culverts, pedestrian walkways, earthworks and the installation of solar-powered streetlights.

The inauguration forms part of a series of infrastructure projects being commissioned across the FCT under the Federal Government’s efforts to improve transportation, expand public infrastructure and drive economic growth.
