LP Chairman Blasts Ceekay Igara, Says Abians Have Moved Beyond His Level, Hails Otti’s Performance

The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike, has dismissed the governorship ambition of the Abure-led faction’s candidate, Mr. Ceekay Igara, describing it as unrealistic and disconnected from the current political realities in the state.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Labour Party Secretariat in Umuahia, Azubuike reaffirmed that the party in Abia State has adopted Governor Alex Otti as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election, citing what he described as the Governor’s remarkable achievements and transformative leadership over the past three years.
According to him, Mr Ceekay Igara’s ambition as nothing but a joke, stressing that Abians have moved  beyond his level, particularly those who are still nursing what he described as unrealistic governorship ambitions.

He dismissed Igara’s aspiration as “daydreaming”,  questioning his capacity and competence to lead the state.

“Imagine someone dreaming of becoming the Governor at this time. With which IQ? With which capacity?” he asked.

He further stated that it is easier to wake someone who is genuinely asleep than someone pretending to be asleep, insisting that the party would not waste its energy trying to convince those unwilling to accept reality.

“We can’t dissipate our energy trying to wake someone who is pretending to sleep. Let him sleep for all we care. If he doesn’t want to face reality, reality will eventually dawn on him. Abians have moved beyond that level”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party Chairman added that the developmental strides recorded under Governor Otti’s administration, have significantly changed the fortunes of Abia State, restoring public confidence and giving residents hope for a better future.
He noted that the progress witnessed within three years of the administration, demonstrates the Governor’s capacity to deliver even greater results if given the opportunity to complete an eight-year tenure.
Azubuike maintained that Abians have embraced the ongoing transformation in the state and are determined to sustain it, insisting that the state has moved beyond the level of politics represented by Igara and his supporters.
The LP chairman also dismissed Igara’s claim to the governorship ticket, stressing that the party’s position remains clear and that its structures in Abia are fully aligned with Governor Otti.
He added that the process for the submission and uploading of candidates is progressing without any challenge, contrary to claims from the opposing faction.
The Abia Labour Party Chairman further stated that the party remains open to welcoming individuals willing to identify with its vision and programmes, saying the Labour Party has continued to extend an olive branch to those interested in joining its fold.
Azubuike further disclosed that Governor Otti’s administration has restored the dignity and pride of Abians through visible developmental projects and reforms, noting that residents can now confidently identify with the state because of the positive changes that have taken place.
He pointed out that the people of Abia are focused on consolidating the gains recorded under the present administration and would not be distracted by what he described as unrealistic political ambitions.
