Labour Party Abia Holds Extraordinary Stakeholders’ Meeting, Unveils Roadmap to Strengthen Party Structure
The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party on Saturday held an Extraordinary Leaders and Stakeholders’ Meeting in Umuahia, where party leaders unveiled a strategic roadmap aimed at strengthening the party’s structure and expanding its grassroots presence across the state ahead of future elections.

The meeting, which took place at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, brought together party leaders, elected officials, women and youth leaders, local government executives, and stakeholders from the 17 local government areas of the state.
Governor Alex Otti, represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, addressed the gathering and commended members for their resilience and commitment to the ideals of the party.

He urged stakeholders to consolidate on the administration’s achievements and deepen the party’s roots across communities in the state.
In his welcome address, the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, appreciated members for their loyalty and praised Governor Otti for his sacrifices in sustaining the Labour Party through difficult times.


Azubuike noted that despite having opportunities to move to another political platform, Governor Otti remained with the party and committed significant resources to keeping it united and functional..
He charged members to move beyond dependence on the governor by establishing functional party offices in all 17 local government areas and the 184 wards, acquiring operational buses, and improving party visibility through branding and grassroots mobilization.

In his welcome address, the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, applauded members for their loyalty and praised Governor Otti for keeping the Labour Party alive during difficult times.
According to him, despite opportunities to defect to other political platforms, Governor Otti remained committed to the party, invested heavily in its survival, and ensured its stability.


He urged members to move beyond depending solely on the governor by establishing functional party offices across the 17 LGAs and 184 wards, acquiring buses for party activities, and increasing the party’s visibility through branding and grassroots mobilization.
Delivering goodwill messages, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial District, commended Governor Otti’s leadership style and described Abia as a model state under the current administration.
Senator Darlington Nwokocha and Chief David Ogba also pledged continued support for the growth and expansion of the party, while the National Secretary of the Labour Party, Hon. Iheanacho Obioma, reaffirmed the national leadership’s commitment to strengthening the party in the state.
The State Secretary later presented the State Working Committee’s roadmap, which outlined plans for party expansion into markets and motor parks, inauguration of new executives, and strategic alliances with smaller political parties.
A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the party’s new website, signaling a push toward modernization and wider grassroots engagement.
During a support session coordinated by Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, member representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency, stakeholders pledged and donated several millions of naira to support party operations and grassroots mobilization efforts.
Speakers at the event emphasized the need for unity, active participation, and sustained financial support to position the Labour Party as the dominant ruling party in Abia State.
They noted that the party’s expansion drive was anchored on Governor Otti’s achievements in infrastructure renewal and people-oriented governance, which they said had restored pride and confidence among Abians.
The meeting ended with a strong charge to members to take ownership of their polling units, wards, and local government areas ahead of the next elections, with the ambitious target of securing all 24 seats in the Abia State House of Assembly, 8 House of Representatives seats, and the 3 senatorial seats in the state.
