The wife of Abia Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, has joined Africans in diaspora, international organisations and stakeholders to call for the right of the African child.

Mrs. Ikpeazu, made the call in her Government House office in Umuahia, to commemorate the international day of the African Child.

She explained that the day of the African child has always been celebrated on every 16th, June since 1991, when it was first initiated by the African Union to honour those school children who participated in the Soweto uprising in 1976 protesting the poor quality of their education when police brutally open fire on them killing many in South Africa.

It also raises concern about the continuous need for improvement of the education provided to African children .

According to her, ” this year theme, (Access to a child-friendly justice systtem in Africa) is apt and holistic towards the future of the African child and for us at Vicar Hope Foundation, while we provide books, deworm the children, sensitive them, provides lunch and offer scholarships, it is not enough, we would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to pressure African heads of state and their governments until the African child like the rest of children in other continents gets what they truly deserve”.
