Dr. Alex Chioma Otti Sec. School Games Competition kicks off in Abia

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has reiterated his commitment towards the promotion of sports and talent development in the State.

Gov. Otti who made this known at Umuahia Township stadium, while declaring open, the maiden edition of “Dr. Alex Chioma Otti Secondary School Games”, said that his administration would remain focused in ensuring the development of the potentials of the Abia youth, when it come to sporting activities.

The governor who was represented by Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, the Deputy Governor, enjoined the students to brace up, exercise their God-given talent and aspire not just to represent Abia State but to represent the Nation like the proud Abia models who include: Kanu Nwankwo; Kenneth Omeruo; who is currently playing in the African Nations Cup; Desire Oparanozie, among others Abians .

While also appreciating the State’s Para athletic contingent who won some laurels recently, Gov. Otti commended them for making the state proud and for also showing the world there is ability.

The governor who encouraged the teachers not to relent in guiding and impacting the needed Knowledge on the students, also advised the students to always play the role of a true sportsman and shun every youthful device.

Speaking earlier, the State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Nwaobilor Ananaba, said the event was designed to not only lay a solid foundation for sporting activities among the secondary School students but to also to harvest talents.

Also speaking respectively, the Deputy Chief of Staff/Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Chinedu Okeke; and the Chairman Abia Warriors Football Club, Mr. John Obuh, lauded Gov. Otti for his development oriented policies, which has been extended to the sports sector of the state.

They expressed optimism that in the near the dividends of the grassroots sports development initiated by the governor would be glaring for all to appreciate.

Also in his remarks, Comrade Obioma George, Acting Director of Sports, Abia State Sports Council commended Gov. Otti’s administration for bringing Abia to the sports success path and for sponsoring many Abia athletes in both National and International competitions.

The event featured Dance presentation by the students, the presentation of trophy and lighting of the touch of peace and unity for the formal commencement of the Dr Alex Otti Secondary School Unity Games.
