Container and cargo truck drivers in Abia State have endorsed Governor Alex Otti for a second term, citing improvements in road infrastructure, particularly in Aba.
The drivers, under the Active Container and Cargo Truck Drivers, Abia State Chapter, made their position known on Thursday during a solidarity march through Aba.

Chairman of the association, Comrade David Chidozie, said the group organised the rally to appreciate the governor’s performance and demonstrate support for his re-election bid.
Comrade Chidozie said the rehabilitation of major roads had eased the movement of heavy-duty vehicles and improved the transportation of goods across the state.

He recalled the difficulties truck drivers previously encountered on major routes, particularly Port Harcourt Road, which he described as a critical entry route into Aba.
“Today, we are here on a solidarity march for our governor, Dr. Alex Otti, because of his good works.
“We know what the situation was like four or five years ago. Travelling from Port Harcourt to this place could take four or five hours because of the terrible condition of the roads.

“Port Harcourt Road, which is one of our major entry routes, was practically a no-go area. We could hardly use it conveniently because of its condition. But today, things have changed and we can now ply the road.
“That is why we are here to show our appreciation and support for the governor”, he said.

The Association chairman said improved road networks were vital to the trucking business, noting that easier movement of cargo would also boost commercial activities and improve the business environment.
“We are saying that other people should join us in supporting and voting for Dr. Alex Otti in 2027. That is our mission.
“We have seen the difference in the condition of our roads and we believe that the good work should continue”, Comrade Chidozie said.

He disclosed that the association had also sensitised its members on voter registration and the need to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, members had been encouraged to participate in the electoral process adding that the association now requires members attending its meetings to present their PVCs.

“After the registration exercise, we made it compulsory for members coming to our meetings to show their PVCs.
“We have been checking and confirming that they have them because we want our members to be prepared and able to participate when the elections come”, he explained.

Comrade Chidozie urged other residents, including traders and commercial drivers, to support Otti’s second-term bid.
“I am advising everybody in Abia State to vote for Dr. Alex Otti. We are happy with what he is doing and we want everybody to join us in supporting him.
“That is the message we are taking to the people. We, the Active Container and Cargo Truck Drivers, have endorsed Dr. Alex Otti as our governor for 2027. We are standing by that decision and we are calling on others to support him as well”, he said.
