The President-General of the Ututu Development Association (UDA), Pst. Engr. Kalu Nto, PhD, has thanked the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for approving the return of retired teachers who are below 65 years to active service and setting aside ₦1 billion for a Teachers’ Appreciation Fund.
Nto said the decisions would help improve education in Abia State and show that the government values the important work teachers have been doing in the state.
In a statement release by the publicity Secretary UTUTU DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (UDA) the President-General said teachers are very important to the growth and development of any society because almost every professional, leader and successful person has passed through the hands of a teacher.
He said allowing qualified retired teachers below 65 years to return to work would enable the state to benefit from their years of experience and knowledge.
“Teachers help to build society. Every professional, leader and responsible citizen has passed through the hands of teachers. We therefore appreciate Governor Alex Otti for recognising the value of experienced teachers and giving those below 65 years the opportunity to return to service,” he said.
Nto also welcomed the ₦1 billion Teachers’ Appreciation Fund, saying it was a way of recognising the hard work and sacrifices of teachers who have spent many years educating and preparing young people for the future.
He said the fund was important not only because of the money involved but also because it shows that teachers and their work are being recognised and appreciated.
According to him, bringing experienced teachers back into the system could also help younger teachers learn from them. He said the older teachers could share their knowledge and experience with younger colleagues and help improve teaching in schools.
The UDA President-General urged the returning teachers to take their responsibilities seriously and show commitment, discipline and dedication in their work.
He also called on parents, teachers, traditional rulers, development associations and other groups to support the government’s efforts to improve education in Abia State.
Nto said the Ututu Development Association would continue to support programmes and policies that promote education, improve the welfare of the people and contribute to the development of Abia State.
He thanked Governor Otti for the measures taken in support of teachers and prayed for wisdom and strength for the governor in the administration of the state.
He also called on the people of Abia State to play their part in the development of the state and support programmes that will improve the lives and future of its people.
