NSCDC Boss Urges OOPOLY Security Personnel to Be Professional

The Abia State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), CC Chukwuemeka N. Odimba, has urged security personnel of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba (OOPOLY), to be disciplined, professional and committed to their duties.

Odimba gave the charge while addressing the Polytechnic’s security personnel during a capacity-building training organised to strengthen security at the institution.

The Commandant said security officers should understand that their duties go beyond protecting the Polytechnic, as their skills and professionalism also contribute to the safety of the wider society.

He said a well-trained security officer is an asset to the state and the country.

«“A well-trained officer is a plus to the nation. The service you are doing here is not only for the institution, but for Abia State and Nigeria at large,” Odimba said.»

He urged the personnel to take the training seriously and apply the knowledge gained in their daily duties, especially in maintaining order, protecting lives and property, and responding properly to security challenges.

The training is part of efforts by the management of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic to strengthen its internal security and provide a safer environment for teaching, learning and other academic activities.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Christopher Kalu Okoro, said security is important to the smooth running of any academic institution.

He noted that students and staff need a safe and peaceful environment to carry out their academic and professional activities effectively.

Okoro said the Polytechnic would continue to support partnerships and programmes aimed at improving the skills and professionalism of its security personnel.

He commended the NSCDC Abia State Command and Commandant Odimba for supporting the institution and providing the security personnel with relevant knowledge and professional skills.

The Rector urged the security personnel to see the training as more than a routine exercise, but as an opportunity to improve their performance and contribute to the safety of the Polytechnic and the wider community.

He also charged them to remain disciplined, alert and committed to ethical conduct.

“Your service matters. Your training matters. Your commitment contributes to a safer OOPOLY, a safer Abia and a safer Nigeria,” Okoro said.
