1.0 BIRTH, FAMILY AND EDUCATION
Chief Chris Nkwonta was born on November 03, 1960 to the family of Late Chief Chibor & Mrs. Mercy Opunne Nkwonta of Akwete, Ndoki, Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria.
After his Primary and Secondary Education, he worked at Nigeria Engineering Works Limited in Port Harcourt as Secretary/Personal Assistant to the Chief Engineer/General Manager, Engr. K. P. Bhutadah for about four years. He also worked with Pan African Bank Limited in Port Harcourt as the Confidential Secretary/Personal Assistant to the then Head, Public Relations, Mr. Ngo Martyns-Yellowe (who later became the Chairman, Rivers State Civil Service Commission from 1979 – 1981). Despite his promising career and offer of a brand new car then, Mr. Nkwonta resigned his appointment from Pan African Bank in 1981 and proceeded to United Kingdom for further studies.
While in the United Kingdom, young Nkwonta diligently pursued his undergraduate studies in Maritime Studies at the Center for Business Studies, London (now Greenwich University). After successful completion of his studies and upon graduation, he returned to Nigeria in 1985 for his National Youth Service Assignment and subsequently served with the Nigerian Ports Authority. Chief Nkwonta also holds Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) with Specialization in Leadership and Sustainability from University of Cumbria, United Kingdom (2012 – 2014). Chief Chris Nkwonta is a Professional Member of both the Chattered Institute of Transport and Chattered Institute of Transport Administration, London, United Kingdom.
Chief Chris Nkwonta had impressive and rewarding career in the following Organizations before establishing his own businesses starting from the year 2003.
* True Venture Nigeria Limited: 1986 – 1992.
* Floor Mills of Nigeria PLC: March – May 1992.
* Exon Mobil Limited: 1992 – 1995.
* Fymak Nigeria Limited: 1996 – 1997.
* Shell Petroleum Development Company: 1997 – 2001.
* Daddo Maritime Limited: 2001 – 2004.
3.0 BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURIAL VENTURES
With his vision for economic independence, self reliance and wealth creation; Chief Chris Nkwonta founded and incorporated Blueseas Maritime Services Limited in the year 2003 and the investment has been progressively managed, nurtured and metamorphosed into what is presently known globally as Blueseas Group of Companies with interests in Maritime Services, Shipping & Logistics, Oil & Gas and Hospitality. Blueseas Group is a Holding Company that houses other Companies including:
* Blueseas Maritime Services Limited.
* Liquid Bulk Nigeria Limited (LBL): This Company has one of the Largest Private Petroleum Products Depot in Nigeria and presently operates Thirteen (13) state-of-the-art Petroleum Products Retail Outlets strategically located across Nigeria.
* Fleet Coordinators Limited
* Southern Star International Hotels Limited.
4.0 PUBLIC SERVICE
Chief Chris Nkwonta believes in rendering quality service to God and humanity. The services rendered to his Community, Abia State and Nigeria earned him special recognition by the Government of Abia State, when in the year 2012 he was conferred with the Special Title of Oke Orji, Abia State. Subsequently, in the same year, he was appointed Chairman, SURE-P Board by the then Governor of Abia State, H. E. Chief T. A. Orji. However, he resigned the appointment later in the year 2014 to seek elective office. Some of the Projects executed by SURE-P Board under his Chairmanship include the following:
a. Building of Ultra Modern Health Facilities in all the seventeen (17) Local Government Areas of Abia State.
b. Renovation and Infrastructure Upgrade in selected public schools in the seventeen (17) Local Government Areas of Abia State.
c. The Board also embarked on extensive Youth Empowerment Programs whereby, selected youths across the seventeen (17) Local Government Areas of Abia State were trained in various vocations and provided with grants of various sums upon successful completion of the said trainings.
5.0 PHILANTHROPY AND POLITICS
Chief Chris Nkwonta has over the years been involved in extensive philanthropic programs in both Ukwa East and Ukwa West LGAs through the Chris Nkwonta Foundation established in the year 2010. The Foundation successfully executed the following Programs:
a. Two (2) beneficiaries of the overseas Scholarship Scheme of the Foundation were sponsored to the United Kingdom for Postgraduate Studies.
b. Twenty Five (25) beneficiaries of the University/Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme of the Foundation selected from both Ukwa East LGA and Ukwa West LGA were successfully trained in various Universities/Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria between 2010 – 2015.
c. Sixty Sixty (66) beneficiaries of the Foundation’s Secondary School Scholarship Scheme selected from both Ukwa East LGA and Ukwa West LGA were successfully trained in various secondary schools in Abia State.
d. Forty Eight (48) beneficiaries of the Foundation’s Skill Acquisition Scheme selected from both Ukwa East LGA and Ukwa West LGA were successfully trained in various Competitive Skills and empowered accordingly.
e. The Foundation has sponsored Quiz Competitions in Secondary Schools in Abia State.
f. The Foundation successfully sponsored Seven (7) Players including Management Representative of Dreamland Football Academy in 2011 to Portugal for an overseas training program.
g. The Foundation sponsored several overseas and local medical treatment for the vulnerable and financially incapacitated people in Abia State and beyond.
I. The Foundation embarks on yearly distribution of Food and other essential items to the less privileged and widows in Ukwa East LGA.
Chief Chris Nkwonta was the Senatorial Candidate for Abia South Senate in 2015 and 2019 respectively.
He is married with Children and loves Fishing and Watching Football.
