Commissioners’ Quarters to Reduce Costs, Enhance Security in Rivers – Gov Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, says the ongoing construction of a 25-unit residential estate for commissioners and special advisers is aimed at reducing government expenditure, improving efficiency, and strengthening security.

Fubara made this known on Thursday after inspecting the project in Port Harcourt, noting that the initiative was necessitated by the absence of official accommodation for top government officials.

He explained that the state had been spending significant resources on rented apartments for senior officials, describing the situation as inefficient and unsustainable. According to him, the decision to build a permanent housing solution was taken to address the challenge and ensure better value for public funds.

The governor said housing commissioners and special advisers within a single estate would enhance coordination and improve productivity within the State Executive Council.

He also highlighted the security benefits of the project, noting that centralising the residences of top officials would reduce the need for multiple security deployments.

“When they are all living together, it makes it easier for us to have one unit of security, and this multiple carrying of police will stop,” he said.

Fubara expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, commending the contractor handling the project. He added that the estate is expected to be completed and inaugurated by November, describing it as a durable project that would serve as a lasting legacy of his administration.
