‘Adopt Strict Measures To Avoid Being Victims Of Covid-19’

An associate professor of Political Science at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Rivers State Dr Ken Nweke is calling on Media Professionals across the country to adopt more strict measures to avoid being victims of Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Nweke in an interview with our reporter said journalist are more vulnerable, just like the health workers.

He explained that media practitioners in Nigeria are part of the vulnerable in this era of Covid-19.

Nweke said because of the level of exposure in their job, they have become very vulnerable.

Dr Nweke advised media practitioners, journalist to take precautionary measures while carrying out their duties.

” I want to say clearly that it is a time that media practitioners, journalist adopt more stringent measures. Media practitioners should exercise some high restraint in living up to their jobs. This job must be done in disseminating information to the public and also managing the Covid”

The University don also called on government and media owners to support journalist by giving insurance and incentives to enable them do their job effectively this period.

“Owners of media houses should also try as much as possible in instituting a kind of insurance for their workers. And government should also support media practitioners because they are the one actually disseminating on how to prevent and how to manage the Covid”

“So they need a lot of support in this regard, in terms of insurance, remuneration and in terms of incentive. Because they are exposed as even the health workers themselves. I believe that Nigerians, government, and owners of media houses should as well understand that it is important they take this measures seriously”. He concluded.
