The Azumini Oganihu Women have held their 2026 August Meeting with the theme “Heart of Appreciation,” bringing together women from different villages in Azumini, both at home and abroad.
The one-week programme was a time for the women to thank God, celebrate together and strengthen their relationship with one another. It also provided an opportunity for them to discuss their role in the development of Azumini.
The programme included a football competition among women from different villages and a colourful march-past. The activities brought joy and excitement while also promoting friendship, unity and healthy competition.
Speaking during her opening address on Saturday, at the closing of the Oganihu August meeting 2026, the President of Oganihu Women, Azumini, Deaconess Mrs. Eziuche Ada Ogeh, thanked the women for coming together again for the 2026 August Meeting.
She said the meeting was an opportunity to thank God for His mercy and protection and to remind the women that working together was important for the progress of Azumini.
Quoting Romans 9vs16, she said “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
Mrs. Ogeh said the successful meeting was a sign of God’s mercy and a reason for the women to remain thankful.
Speaking about the theme, “Heart of Appreciation,” she explained that appreciation means showing gratitude, respect and recognition for the good things people have done.
She said the theme was meant to encourage the women to thank God for His blessings and appreciate the people who have contributed to the growth and unity of Azumini.
Mrs. Ogeh also announced that, from next year, the organisation would support bereaved families among its members with 100,000 Naira and a bag of garri.
She also said the enforcement of the traditional rule requiring women to tie wrappers during “Mgbede,” the traditional marriage ceremony in Azumini, had started. She urged the women to respect and protect the culture and traditions of the community.
The Oganihu Women President further said the organisation has a good relationship with the Azumini Interim Administrative Council (AIAC) and the Azumini Welfare Association (AWA). She assured both organisations of the women’s continued support and said working together would help bring more development to Azumini.
The Ukwa East Mayor, Hon. Chibunna Akara, who was a special guest of honour and represented by his wife, Mrs. Favour Akara, also praised the women for their unity and togetherness.
Mrs. Akara said the women were working with “one spirit” and encouraged them to continue to live in peace and support one another.
She also urged the women to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and take part in elections. She called on them to support and vote for the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, whom she described as a hardworking governor.
She encouraged the women to continue supporting programmes that would help develop Azumini and Ukwa East.
The President of the Azumini Welfare Association (AWA), Elder Azubike Nwankwo, who was also a special guest of honour, thanked the Oganihu Women for their continued support for the Azumini community.
Elder Nwankwo praised the women for standing by the community and contributing to its development. He urged them to remain united, strong and committed to the progress of Azumini.
He also encouraged them to continue supporting community projects and working with other groups to promote peace and development.
The 2026 Oganihu Women August Meeting ended happily, with the women dancing, celebrating and expressing joy as they brought the week-long programme to a close.
