World Sickle Cell Day:VHF collaborates with Ministry of health

The Vicar Hope Foundation with support from the State Ministry of Health and relevant agencies will mark this year’s World Sickle Cell Day on June 19 2018.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Wife of the Governor Eze Ajuzie ,says the event with a theme “Working Together to End the Cycle”, would focus on recent successes in the multi-faceted effort to curb the sickle cell disease, especially the recent passage of the Law for the Identification of Blood Group and Genotype by the State House of Assembly.

According to the release, the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, the Right Honourable Chikwendu Kalu, will be the Special Guest of Honour, while a consultant haematologist, Dr. Ogbonnaya Nwabuko, will deliver the Keynote Address titled:

“Beyond the Legislation for Sickle Cell Prevention – Getting the right outcomes”.

The statement further says the venue for the programme  would be  Aba General Hospital, Aba while time is 10.00 a.m.

He named Professor Chuks Kamalu, Chief Medical Director Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba as chairman of the event, while the Founder/President of Vicar Hope Foundation and Wife of the Governor Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu is the Chief Host.

The release further explains that the day’s events will feature a road show on major streets of the city of Aba, free genotype tests and presentations of Award to the Speaker and Abia State House of Assembly for their support for the fight against sickle cell disease.
