The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, in collaboration with Lifestyle Hues and the Adobe Express Team, has trained 100 journalists in Abuja on digital media and content creation skills aimed at enhancing productivity and multimedia storytelling.
The one-day capacity-building workshop brought together journalists from both public and private media organisations across the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to equipping journalists with modern communication tools and global best practices to remain relevant in the evolving media landscape.
She noted that the media industry has undergone significant transformation, making it necessary for journalists to embrace innovation and digital storytelling techniques.
According to her, tools such as Adobe Express have become essential for designing visuals, editing multimedia content, and presenting news in more engaging formats.
“I believe this training is one of many steps we are taking to ensure that our members remain competitive, relevant, and impactful. The way information is presented has evolved, and journalists must also adapt to these changes,” she said.
Ike commended Lifestyle Hues and the Adobe Express Team for supporting the initiative and urged participants to make the most of the training by actively engaging and applying the skills acquired in their various newsrooms.
Also speaking, Brand Marketing Consultant and Adobe Partner Ambassador, Ayodotun Akinfenwa, said the training was designed to empower journalists and content creators with practical digital communication skills.
She explained that journalists must be able to independently create designs, presentations, announcements, and online content to improve efficiency and visibility in the digital space.
According to her, professionals who fail to showcase their work online risk missing opportunities despite having relevant experience and expertise.
“Tools like Adobe Express help journalists work faster, create engaging content, and improve information dissemination. If you are not showing up online, it may appear as though you are not doing anything,” she said.
Akinfenwa also called on media organisations in both the public and private sectors to invest more in the training and retraining of journalists on emerging digital and artificial intelligence tools.
She stressed that journalists play a critical role in shaping society and must remain at the forefront of technological advancement in communication.
Participants at the workshop described the training as timely and impactful, while calling for more initiatives to strengthen professional capacity in the media industry.
