One year after the disappearance of Mr. Sundday Donatus Chibuzo, the family of Mr. Udodirim Sunday from Orsu village in Orlu Local government Area of Imo state has called on the Nigerian security forces for immediate release of their son from detention, if they are the one holding him.
Again if he has been killed, let them release the corpse to the family for proper burial ceremony according to our tradition and culture concerning the dead, Mr. Udodirim said.
He narrated that Mr. Donatus, a member of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) led by Mazi Nnamdi Kalu, and a branch leader of the ESN, the militia wing of IPOB were caught displaying “proscribed items” on the streets of Orsu in Imo state and “chanting inciting songs against the Nigeria nation to release their leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
According to Udodirim, Mr. Donatus was last seen after the combined Nigeria security forces operation swoop on them and that led to the death of the ESN commander Uchechukwu Akpan and ten others, with several brutally injured On the 4th of October, 2023.
Police said Akpan died alongside ten militias while others fled during a gun battle with the combined forces of police, Department of state services and Nigeria Army at the operational headquarter of IPOB/ESN in Orsu.
Sunday Donatus Chibuzo joined Eastern Security Network to fight injustice, marginalisation of the Igbo ethnic groups and to defend the South Eastern region from the operations of the Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen.
burnt down house of Mr. Sundday Donatus Chibuzo
Mr Udodirim Sunday, a member of the family who spoke with Newsmen revealed that Mr Donatus’s home has been set ablaze by the security forces, when they came looking for him while his aged father did not survive the trauma.
He expressed that since the incident happened the whereabouts of Mr Donatus has not been established.
According to him, we are worried and occasionally the security agents come here to harass us, threatening to do more damage if we do not provide him.
Before now the indigenous people of Biafra has condemned the attacks, rapes, destruction of farmlands by herdsmen and killings going on in the south eastern part of Nigeria.
The IPOB were peacefully demanding for equal rights as citizens of Nigeria or immediate separation from Nigeria to become independent sovereign state of their Biafra land.
The group also accused the Nigeria military and its other security outfits of sponsoring attacks in the marginalised south eastern parts of the county.
At the moment, report from the IPOB sources says that the reason why Nigeria security forces are carrying out house to house search and killings of innocent IPOB/ESN members including women, children and destruction of properties is to weaken the agitation for a sovereign state of Biafra.
Meanwhile, all efforts made to reach the police public relation officer Sp. Bala Eikana, proved abortive.
He did not respond to text messages as his phone could neither be reached before this publication.
