For Mrs. Mary Ejiuwa of Amaokai Community, Ugwueke in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, the loss of her husband to a devastating flood has been followed by an unexpected promise of a new home.
Ejiuwa’s husband, Mr. Ejiuwa Okorie, was swept away by floodwaters following torrential rainfall in the community, leaving the family to cope with the loss and difficult living conditions.

Visiting the bereaved widow on Tuesday, the Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, expressed sympathy with the family and assured her that she would not be left to face the aftermath of the tragedy alone.
The visit followed an earlier assessment of the family’s situation by members of Anyaso’s campaign council, who were sent to the community to ascertain their immediate needs.

Moved by the condition of the family’s mud house, Anyaso directed that the widow be temporarily relocated while the existing structure is demolished.
He also directed the construction of a standard two-bedroom bungalow for the widow and her family.
“Please be strong. I would like to demolish this mud house and build a standard two-bedroom bungalow,” Anyaso told the widow.

He further assured her: “We won’t abandon you. We won’t also leave you stranded. We will continue to look after you.”
Anyaso described the flood incident as a natural disaster and urged the widow to remain strong despite the loss.
Accompanying him during the visit were the former Chairman of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Ukwu Rocks Emma; Director-General of the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organisation, Pastor Dike Okechukwu; Chairman of the Advisory Council, Ezeogo Emeka Onuoha; Deputy Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Anya, and other members of the delegation.
The delegation said arrangements would commence immediately for the widow’s temporary accommodation and construction of the new house.
For the bereaved family, the intervention offers not only the prospect of a safer home but also a measure of support at a difficult moment following the loss of their breadwinner.
