Abia Sports Commissioner to Meet Newly Inaugurated Sports Association Chairmen

As part of ongoing efforts to reposition sports development in Abia State, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sir Nwaobilor Nwadinma Ananaba, will on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, hold a strategic meeting with the newly inaugurated chairmen of the 35 sports associations in the state. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Bishop Nwaedo Banquet Hall, BCA Road Umuahia, beginning at 10:00 a.m. prompt.

According to information made available by the Director of Sports, Comrade Obioma George, the meeting will focus on charting a new course for the holistic development of sports across the state. Discussions are expected to center on sustainable funding mechanisms for sports associations, effective administration of various sporting disciplines, talent discovery and development, grassroots sports programmes, and enhanced participation in national competitions.

The Commissioner is expected to outline the vision of the administration for sports development and provide guidelines that will enable the newly inaugurated association executives to align their programmes with the government’s broader objectives of youth empowerment, talent development, and sporting excellence.
The meeting is also expected to foster stronger collaboration between the Ministry and the various sports associations, creating a framework for improved planning, accountability, and efficient utilization of available resources.

All chairmen and secretaries of the 35 sports associations have been directed to attend the meeting without fail. Participants are advised to be seated before the arrival of the Honourable Commissioner to ensure the timely commencement of proceedings.

Sports stakeholders have described the meeting as a significant step towards revitalizing sports administration in Abia State and building a sustainable structure capable of producing elite athletes while promoting grassroots participation across all sporting disciplines.
