Abia State Government has constituted a panel of experts to oversee the upgrade of the State School of Nursing to a College of Nursing Sciences.
The Commissioner for information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this on Monday while briefing Newsmen on the outcome of this week’s Exco meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu also disclosed that a panel of experts have been constituted to midwife the upgrade of the eight (8) Schools of Nursing in the state into a College of Nursing Sciences .
According to the Commissioner, all the eight Nursing schools will merge with one as the main campus for the emergent college of Nursing Sciences.
He highlighted the state government’s commitment to quality healthcare, adding that the upgrade would enhance the state’s healthcare sector as well as the qualifications and production of high-grade nurses in the state.
“The State Government has constituted a panel of experts to midwife the upgrade of Abia state school of nursing to a college of Nursing sciences.
“This is a move aimed at enhancing the qualification and production of high grade nurses in the state“, Prince Kanu noted.
The Commissioner emphasized the unwavering commitment of the present administration to improve healthcare services for the people of Abia State.
He disclosed that the State Government has completed the upgrade of a new Eye Clinic, an annex of the Abia Specialist Hospital located at Amachara, which is set to be commissioned tomorrow, September 3, 2024.
According to Prince Kanu, the Eye Care facility will provide specialized and affordable eye care services to residents of the State.
“The Commissioning of the additional Eye Care Center, is another pointer to the huge premium that the state government under the leadership of Dr Alex Otti places on the provision of specialist and affordable Eye Care Clinic for Ndi Abia and Abia residents“, Kanu said.
