Tinubu Commissions Karu Water Scheme for FCT Satellite Towns

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the Karu Satellite Town Water Supply Network, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving access to potable water in several communities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The project, commissioned on Monday through Vice President Kashim Shettima, is expected to provide treated water to residents of Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu and other adjoining satellite communities.

The water scheme comprises more than 194 kilometres of secondary and tertiary pipeline networks designed to expand access to clean and safe drinking water while addressing the growing needs of the rapidly expanding settlements on the outskirts of Abuja.

Officials disclosed that the project was awarded in August 2025 following President Tinubu’s directive to extend critical infrastructure development beyond the city centre to underserved communities within the FCT.

Completed within one year, the project is seen as part of the administration’s broader commitment to accelerating infrastructure delivery and improving living conditions in satellite towns.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony in Abuja, FCT officials commended President Tinubu for prioritising projects that directly impact the welfare of residents, particularly those in communities that have long faced challenges associated with inadequate infrastructure.

They noted that the completion of the water supply network would not only improve access to potable water but also contribute to better public health outcomes, environmental sanitation and economic development in the beneficiary communities.

The Karu Water Supply Network is expected to serve thousands of residents and support ongoing efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps across the Federal Capital Territory. This version follows standard newspaper style with a stronger lead, improved flow, and concise reporting format.
