Analyst Urges Fubara to Appoint More Women into Govt

A social analyst, Mr. Greg Eze, has called on the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to appoint more women into strategic positions in his administration, saying greater female participation in governance would enhance development and promote inclusive leadership.

Speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Eze stressed the need to advance equality, peace, inclusion and sustainable development by creating more opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to governance and nation-building.

He argued that women possess enormous leadership potential and should be empowered through education, financial support and sustained encouragement to participate actively in politics and public service.

According to him, women have continued to demonstrate competence in governance, peacebuilding and socio-economic development, adding that their contributions should no longer be overlooked.

Eze described women as result-oriented leaders and home builders who, when entrusted with leadership responsibilities, often bring dedication, innovation and accountability to public office.

He further maintained that increased female representation in government could strengthen policy implementation and accelerate development across various sectors.

The analyst also advocated greater support for women seeking elective offices and urged Governor Fubara to appoint more qualified women into top government positions, expressing confidence that such appointments would promote inclusive governance and improve service delivery.

Offering a different perspective, another resident, Samuel Owunda, said while he supports equal opportunities and greater inclusion of women in politics and the economy, he believes the nation’s current security and governance challenges require exceptionally difficult leadership decisions.

Owunda argued that women have consistently demonstrated competence in ministries, government agencies and local government administration, and noted that many are capable of outperforming men in public service. However, he expressed reservations about women occupying the nation’s highest political office under Nigeria’s present security and economic realities.

Despite his concerns, he emphasized the need to continue creating opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to national development, insisting that merit, competence and inclusiveness should remain central to leadership selection.
