Abia govt assures Corps members of support

Corps member posted to Abia state, have been assured of continued government support and assistance in ensuring a productive service year in line with the administration’s policy thrust.

The state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, who stated this during the closing ceremony and Terminal Parade of the 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Orientation Course at NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, equally reassured them that his administration would continue to provide the enabling environment needed for them to serve effectively in their host communities including their safety and security.

He extolled the corps members for their cooperation with the camp officials in ensuring a successful and hitch free orientation.

Represented by the Secretary to the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Barr. Chris Ezem, urged them to imbibe the spirit of hard work that was instilled in them during the orientation course.

He further reminded them that the secret of hard work remains showing love and commitment to whatever one does,as such guarantees enthusiasm which translates into competence, efficiency and effectiveness.

According to him ,” it is important to note that every system such as ours that is undergoing fundamental changes,opens itself to opportunity for the creative minds .
“The nation today needs young men and women who can develop new solutions to emerging problems, people who are not afraid to dream great dreams and who are determined to make great impact in our economy and society”,he stated.

Dr. Ikpeazu advised them to accept their postings without questions and be ready to improve the standard of living of the people in their host communities, by embarking on life touching community development projects.

“We will continue to encourage and appreciate outstanding corps members who will go extra miles to embark on meaningful community development projects to their host communities”, he stated.

Earlier in her address, the State Coordinator NYSC, Lady Bona Adibeli Fasakin,said that 2211 corps members posted to Abia state successfully underwent a 21 day orientation camp exercise during which they were exposed to designed and structured programmes on paramilitary drills, citizenship and leadership training of the Man ‘O’ War, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship, and lectures on various self-development aimed at preparing them for the great challenges ahead of them, during the service year and beyond.

According to her,” the contributions of the National Youth Service Corps scheme to socio – economic and political development, cannot be over emphasized as the scheme has achieved its overall objectives in building more dynamic strong, prosperous and egalitarian society through the moulding of youths into responsible beings.

Lady Adibeli Fasakin assured the state government that the discipline instilled in these corps members would never depart from them throughout their service year.

She admonished the corps members to put into practice all they have acquired during the induction course and appealed to host communities to receive the corps employers with open arms and integrate into their system.

Highpoint of the event was the awards of honour given to five corps members as well as some of the camp security officials who distinguished themselves during the Orientation Camp.
