Abia State is once again flying the green-white-green high as its para-badminton athletes representing Nigeria have stormed into multiple finals at the Uganda Para Badminton International 2026, setting up an all-Nigerian showdown on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at the Lugogo Arena in Kampala.
The week-long tournament, which ran from July 7 – 12, 2026, has seen Nigeria dominate several categories, with Abia athletes leading the charge for Team Nigeria.
The order of play released for Sunday confirms at least 3 guaranteed gold and silver medals for Nigeria, all featuring Abia players:
Men’s Singles SL4 + SU5 Final #3: Abia’s Elijah Eneojo Agada will face fellow Nigerian and Abia star Chigozie Jeremiah NNANNA in a final that guarantees Nigeria gold and silver.
In the Men’s Singles SL3 Final #3: Another Abia battle is set as Chukwuebuka Sunday Eze takes on Obinna Preciuos NWOSU. Both athletes have been impressive throughout the tournament.
In the Men’s Doubles SL3 – SU5 Final #7, Nigeria will also sweep the podium here with two Abia pairs facing off: Chukwuebuka Sunday Eze / Chigozie Jeremiah Nnanna vs Elijah Eneojo Agada / Obinna Precious Nwosu.
In the Women’s and Doubles Contests, Abia’s women are also in the mix. Gift Ijeoma Chukwuemeka will meet teammate Ebikonboere Lyka BROWN in the WS – WH1 + WH2 Final #3.
The pair of Ebikonboere Lyka Brown / Gift Ijeoma Chukwuemeka will later team up to face Uganda’s Pamela Banura/Sarah Nazziwa in Doubles WH1-WH2.
In men’s doubles, the Abia duo of Ifeanacho Emmanuel Ohaeri /Onwukwe S Ekeoma will take on Uganda/Rwanda’s Brian Mugabe / Jean D’Amour Ndahiro. Ohaeri and Ekeoma will also feature in mixed doubles action.
The qualification of these Abia para-badminton athletes into Sunday’s finals is a testament to the growing investment in para-sports in Abia State, thanks to the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, who had made it possible for the athletes to compete at the event. Competing against top players from Uganda, Benin, and Rwanda, Team Nigeria has shown dominance, ensuring the national anthem will be played multiple times on finals day.
