FG Launches Digital Procurement System to Tackle Delays in Education Sector

The Federal Government has unveiled a digital platform aimed at addressing persistent delays in procurement processes within Nigeria’s education sector.

The platform, known as the Procurement Compliance Monitoring System, is designed to enhance transparency, accountability and efficiency in procurement activities across the Federal Ministry of Education and its affiliated institutions.

Speaking during a capacity-building session for procurement officers at the auditorium of the National Universities Commission in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, said the initiative would help eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks that often slow down the execution of education projects.

According to the minister, procurement delays have remained a major challenge in implementing key educational programmes, largely due to incomplete documentation, weak submissions and procedural lapses.

He explained that the newly introduced system would enable electronic management of procurement processes, real-time tracking of submissions and faster approval timelines across the ministry, its agencies, commissions, parastatals and tertiary institutions.

Alausa stressed that strengthening procurement compliance is essential to ensuring that government-funded projects are delivered on schedule and that public resources are managed responsibly.

Also speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Adebowale Adebukola Adedokun, noted that recurring issues such as incomplete documentation and weak procurement submissions have continued to hinder efficient project execution.

He emphasised the need to build the capacity of procurement officers to improve compliance with established procedures.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and the timely delivery of projects across Nigeria’s education sector.
