People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ukwa-East Local Government Area (LGA) chapter, Abia state has upheld the suspension of the former Lawmaker that represented Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Uzoma Nkem Abonta from the party, citing anti-party activities.
The Executive of the Party in Ukwa-East arising from a meeting held on the afore- said date resolved to presented their Communiqué as follows:
1.That the suspension of the former House of Representatives Member, Hon Uzoma Nkem Abonta by the PDP Executive of Akwete/ Ohandu Ward was carried out in compliance with the party’s Constitution and therefore, hereby, upheld and ratified by the PDP Executive Ukwa East L.G.A., Abia state.
2.That Hon. Uzoma Nkem Abonta remains suspended from the party till further notice.
3.That Hon.Uzoma Nkem Abonta’s unilateral constitution and creation of a faction and a Care Taker Committee for Akwete/ Ohandu Ward and the LGA of PDP in Ukwa East is an indication of his ignorance of the content of the party’s Constitution and a call for a check on his membership of the party.
4.That the ascription and appropriation of the office of Leader of Akwete/ Ohandu Ward PDP to himself means that he still sees himself as a member of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, an office he no longer holds or occupies.
5.That the PDP, Ukwa East considers Hon. Abonta’s activities against the party in the last election as anti- party and an act of ingratitude to the party, a platform under which he was elected as a Member, Federal House of Representatives which he held for sixteen years ie four consecutive tenures.
6.That the attempt by Hon.Uzoma Nkem Abonta and his cohorts to orchestrate confusion, disorderliness and faction in Ukwa East PDP is vehemently condemned, rejected and unacceptable as same is not only unlawful but provocative. It is an exercise in futility and dead on arrival.
7.That the imputation of disunity between the BOT chairman, H.E. Senator Adolphus Wabara and the state PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon (Dr.) Asiforo Okere is false and exist only in the imagination of Hon. Uzoma Nkem Abonta and his co- travellers.
8.That we are conversant with his romance with other parties, particularly, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) which appointed him the Deputy Director-General of APGA Campaign Council in the last General Election in Abia State and that he is at the verge of leaving the PDP but does not want to leave without causing disaffection, disintegration and disunity in the Party. We understand the antics of Hon.Uzoma Nkem Abonta very well; we are similarly ready to confront him frontally.
9.That we appreciate the leadership style of the state Party Chairman, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Asiforo Okere who does not in any way interfere with the running of the affairs of either the LGA or Wards in the Local Government Area or any other LGA.
10.That we do hereby, pass a vote of confidence on the Abia State PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon (Dr.) Asiforo Okere and pledge our support and loyalty to his administration.
11.That we thank the House of Representatives Member Representing Ukwa East/ West Federal Constituency, Hon. Chris Nkwonta on the laudable strides, quality representation and remarkable achievements within the short period of his membership of the Green Chambers of the National Assembly.
That the under listed persons are constituted as Members of Ukwa East Local Government Area of Peoples Democratic Party’s Disciplinary Committee with the mandate of investigating several allegations of anti- party activities, breach of PDP’s Constitution and behaving in a manner capable of bringing the Party to disrepute and hatred against Hon. Uzoma Nkem Abonta:
