The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency Senator Akon Eyakenyi, PhD, and other stakeholders have expressed delight over the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the state.
Speaking with journalists before joining party members to cast her vote at her ward centre, Dr Eyakenyi said Governor Umo Eno’s pragmatic leadership has united Akwa Ibom into one formidable movement, making the primaries rancour-free, with no reports of thuggery, voter harassment, violence, or acrimony.
The Deputy Governor also thanked leaders and stakeholders in Oron for the massive love and support shown to the current administration. She added that Senator Ekong Sampson, being the sole candidate in the primaries, received overwhelming affirmative votes from the large turnout of party members.
Maintaining that Oron Federal Constituency, comprising five local government areas, is firmly APC, Dr Eyakenyi assured that, come 2027, APC candidates would emerge victorious in all elections.
Also speaking in his ward, the Chairman of Oron Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Okon Enweme, described the APC primaries as completely hitch-free, noting that party supporters came out in large numbers to demonstrate their support for the APC and Governor Umo Eno, whom he credited with executing major projects in Oron, including the Oron Beach Maritime Infrastructure, model schools, hospitals, and road projects.
Hon. Enweme stated that Senator Ekong Sampson had no rival and that Governor Umo Eno’s “Akwa Ibom United” mantra has been fully embraced by the people.
His counterpart in Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Uno Etim Uno, also said the people of the federal constituency had resolved to support Senator Sampson and follow Governor Umo Eno, whose administration, he said, has brought peace, development, and unity across the state.
Others who commented on the conduct of the APC senatorial primaries included Hon. Godwin Okponung, Chairman of Udung Uko Local Government Area; Hon. George Henshaw, Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area; Hon. Engr. Kpahabia Unoh Efretuei, former Chairman of Oron Local Government Area (1999–2022); and Chief Esu Amba, a stakeholder from Urue Offong/Oruko, among others.
They commended Governor Umo Eno for his political dexterity in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the primaries across the state, with no reported incidents of violence or malpractice.
Senator Ekong Sampson, who was unopposed, secured affirmative votes across Oron Federal Constituency, including Mbo Local Government Area, where a massive turnout of party supporters was also recorded.
Senator Godswill Akpabio and Senator Aniekan Bassey also secured their return tickets respectively.
