Abia State Government has announced a fresh recruitment exercise for healthcare professionals as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen manpower and improve healthcare delivery across the state.
Recall that the Otti-led administration had earlier recruited 742 healthcare professionals into the state’s health workforce. The latest recruitment exercise is expected to further boost the availability of skilled personnel across the state’s health facilities.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu said the State Civil Service Commission would commence the recruitment of additional healthcare professionals, with the new exercise targeting medical officers, dental officers and consultants on both full-time and part-time appointments.
“In line with the ongoing reforms, the State Civil Service Commission will commence recruitment of more healthcare professionals.
“At the last count, 742 medical personnel had been hired.
“This new phase will focus on medical officers, dental officers, consultants, both full-time and part-time. Interested candidates have been urged to apply”, the commissioner stated.
He said the fresh recruitment was part of the present administration’s transformation of the health sector, which had also seen increased investment in healthcare infrastructure, manpower and access to services.
Prince Kanu said the state’s health sector reforms has continued to attract recognition, citing a recent report by Philips Consulting and SBI which rated Abia state first nationally in healthcare affordability and among the top three states in healthcare quality.
He described the recognition as an independent validation of the transformation recorded in the sector.
“The ranking and recognition by Philips Consulting serves as an independent validation of Abia’s impressive transformation journey so far in the state’s health sector”, he said.
