The former Transport Minister, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s dedication of his prestigious award from Rivers State University, College of Medical Sciences to his political adversary, Barr. Nyesom Wike has been described as a show of political maturity by an analyst, Mr. Dickson Obiefula, stressing that it is a new development in Nigeria’s polity, wherein Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi swallowed his pride and political ego to dedicate the award to Nyesom Wike, being that Amaechi was described as the brain behind the establishment of the College when he was the Governor of Rivers State.
Ikemefula made this known in Port Harcourt in an interview with our reporter. According to him, the two brothers had been political adversaries for over a decade. Still, the whole political enmity has been laid to rest by this singular act by Rotimi Amaechi, stressing that this is a calculated reconciliation move anchored on wisdom, even for him to acknowledge that while he initiated and started the project, the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike completed it. He applauded Rotimi Amaechi’s sincerity even in the face of political impasse, stating that this type of recognition and truthfulness could only be seen in developed countries of the world.
In the same development, other people interviewed equally praised Rotimi Amaechi’s courage, describing him as a wise and simple-minded political giant who believes in playing politics without bitterness.
They wished the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike emulate Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and settle his feud with Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike
Recall that on February 6, 2025, the Rivers State University College of Medical Sciences during its induction ceremony at the Senate Chambers gave an award of recognition to Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi was the initiator of the College of Medical Sciences when he was the Governor of Rivers State.
It should be recalled also that the former Minister for Transport Rotimi Amaechi subsequently dedicated the award to his successor Barr. Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister for not abandoning the project but saw to the completion of the College of Medical Sciences.
Equally recall that in his address, the Provost College of Medical Sciences, Professor Chituru Orluwene said the University is producing her first set of Medical Doctors within a record time of six years without experiencing the delays and stagnation rampant among Medical training institutions in Nigeria, stressing that 50 Medical Students were admitted in 2018, out of which two dropped and the 48 who progressed passed through the huddles of Medical Training and examinations recording 100% pass rate in their final examination for induction as medical doctors.
