Potter’s West Ham Defeat Fulham Despite Iwobi’s Brace

Graham Potter won his first match as West Ham manager after defeating Fulham 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.

Carlos Soler capitalized on a lose pass to curl home Hammers first goal in the 31st minute. The home side made it two moments later as a long ball found Aaron Wan-bissaka, whose cut-back allowed Tomas Soucek to flick into the roof of the net.

After the break, Raul Jimenez hit the bar before Nigeria international, Alex Iwobi reduced the deficit six minutes into the second half.

Lucas Paqueta restored West Ham’s two-goal advantage after Danny Ings forced Fulham’s goalkeeper, Bernd Leno into an error.

Alex Iwobi ensured a nervy end to the match when he scored another goal for Fulham. However, West Ham held on to secure their first win under Potter.

This victory moved West Ham United to 12th on the log while Fulham are now ninth.

In other encounters, Nottingham Forest moved to second place on the table after securing a 1-1 draw against leaders Liverpool.

Forest, who were chasing a seventh successive league win for the first time in over 100 years took the lead after eight minutes when Chris Wood scored through Anthony Elanga’s pass.

Recall that Forest were the only side to defeat Liverpool in the league this season and were hoping to make it a double over their more illustrious opponents, but Arne Slot’s second half substitutes made the difference as Diogo  Jota spent only 22 seconds on the pitch before heading in the equalizer through the corner of Kostas Tsimikas, who was also a second half substitute.

Liverpool remain on top of the table with 47 points and a game in hand and are six points above Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Defending champions Manchester City threw away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 at Brentford.

The citizens led through Phil Foden’s second half brace, but the Bees fought back and got a point for their doggedness as Yoane Wissa and Christian Norgard scored to dent City’s quest for a fifth successive Premier League title.

Chelsea skipper, Reece James marked his return to the Premier League after long lay-off due to injury with a stoppage time equalizer against Bournemouth at the Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer gave the home side the lead in the 13th minute, but against the run of play, the Cherries found an equalizer in a platter of gold when Moises Caicedo fouled Antoine Semenyo in the penalty area. Justin Kluivert buried his sixth penalty of the season.
